Welcome Aboard
Launching a space for serious ideas, principled leadership, and American renewal
The First Step of Any Journey…
I’ve spent most of my adult life underwater—not in the figurative sense, but literally. After over 22 years as a submarine officer in the United States Navy, my job has been to operate quietly in places most people will never see. But I’m surfacing now because I believe we need louder, clearer conversations about American leadership, national security, and the opportunities we owe the next generation.
1. Why This, Why Now
After more than two decades as a Navy submarine officer, I’ve spent much of my life operating in silence. But silence doesn't serve us in a moment like this. Our country is facing mounting challenges at home and abroad, and too many of the conversations that matter—about leadership, security, opportunity, and public trust—are either overly partisan or absent altogether.
I’m launching American Opportunity to change that. This is a place to speak plainly and think clearly. It’s a place to draw from real-world experience in national security and connect it to the challenges facing working families, rural communities, and the long-term future of our republic.
As I prepare to transition out of the Navy, complete my doctorate at Johns Hopkins SAIS, and move toward a new chapter in public service, this space will be where I sharpen my ideas and invite others to help shape them.
2. What Kind of Community I’m Looking to Build
American Opportunity isn’t just a newsletter. It’s a home for people who believe in serious ideas, honest debate, and practical leadership. Whether you care about U.S. seapower, economic opportunity in small towns, or the future of American politics, you’re welcome here.
This space is guided by a simple belief: we can’t fix what we refuse to look at clearly. So this will be a space that values depth, civility, evidence, and action. Not performative outrage. Not empty slogans.
I’m building a community of veterans, public servants, thinkers, writers, teachers, rural Americans, reformers, and anyone else who believes the country we want is still worth building.
